Catching Fire

The main settings in Catching Fire are District 12 and the Quarter Quell Arena. District 12 is one of the districts that also is the poorest out of all the other districts.  This is where Katniss lives with her family and her friend Peeta. The living conditions in District 12 are awful. They have improved a little since Katniss and Peeta won the Hunger Games back in book 1 but still are no where near the living conditions in Districts 1 and 2.  Many people from this district are in poverty and have a tough time looking for food and other resources you need in order to survive.  Katniss gives back to the community by giving a little bit of food to the needy. The other major setting is the arena which is where the tributes from each district fight against one another. The arena is called the Quarter Quell. The arena is full of obstacles similar to those from book 1 and their objective is to eliminate the tributes. This is where most of the action will take place. The author of Catching Fire is Suzanne Collins.  Suzanne Collins is 51 years old and has written many novels but her most famous work would have to be the Hunger Games trilogy. I chose to read this book since I have already read the Hunger Games and it intrigued me with all the action that is packed in. After I had read the novel I also decided to watch the movie and that led me to choose to read the second book in the series which would have to be Catching Fire. I believe that later in this novel Katniss will enter the arena and later win again as she did in the first book she will then come back to District 12 and improve their living conditions to those similar to other districts.

Blog Post 1 Setting

In the book The Maze Runner the main setting of the story takes place in a Glade.  At the Glade there are many things that challenge the main character.  The Glade is very similar to a maze that is super difficult to get out of since there are many obstacles that confront the main character Thomas. There are around 40 to 50 other boys that are at the Glade with Thomas.  In the maze there are Grievers that are controlled by the creators that will challenge the boys that will enter the Maze.

The author of  The Maze Runner is James Dashner who also has written the 13th Reality series and the Jimmy Fincher Saga. He is 41 years old and he graduated from Brigham Young University.  He mostly writes books that are adventure, survival, or science-fiction genres. James Dashner's most famous novels are The Maze Runner and the 13th Reality.

I chose to read The Maze Runner because I have heard a lot of great things about this novel.  I like to read adventure novels and this is one of those books that is full of action and has very little parts that are slow.  I have heard that this novel is action packed and it will be tough to put down after Thomas encounters the obstacles that are found in the Maze.

I think that in this novel the main character who is Thomas will be put in the Maze and he will have to fight and claw his way out of the Maze.  While he is in the maze Thomas will have to encounter many grievers and other obstacles that will make his way through the maze even more tough.  I also think that Thomas will encounter another boy that is also in the Maze and they will eventually work together for the common goal of getting out of the Maze after dealing with all of the obstacles that can be found while they are inside of the Maze.
